India has a government with a parliamentary system. Prime Minister is the real authority with whom lies all powers for every internal and external policy. This is the same as President of U.S. while President of India is the nominal head only. PM is the chief of India. It also has a council of ministers to whom also the authorities are given.
Today Narendra Modi is expected to be the next PM of India by majority of people and if BJP wins number of seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections then there will be more chances of the current Chief Minster of Gujarat to become Prime Minister of India.
The very first Prime Minister of India soon after the independence was Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru who was even the co-founder of the nonaligned movement. He was a fertile writer. He remained the PM from 15th August 1947 to 27th May 1964. He belonged to the Indian National Congress political party.
